You want to try detecting any changes in the resistance to the movement of the gate when it reaches the closed position. If you notice that you must push harder at the end or something is catching the gate, try and identify what it is and resolve this. Once again if this is the case try and open up the catch. It is a mode which can be selected to close a gate up against an end stop. In this mode the gate will slow down normally; then continue to run until it strikes a physical end stop. If there is no end stop the gate will continue to run for approximately 350mm and then stop. Its main use is to ensure that a gate is always closed to an exact position so that, say, a magnetic limit switch will make reliable contact. Thus any object in this region of the gate travel will be trapped. It is highly recommended that infra red beams are fitted if this mode is selected. The IR beams are effective up to the point that the gate stops. It is a mode of operation which will cause the gate to close immediately the infra red beam is cleared after an object has entered the beam. Any trigger to the control card will cause a closed or closing gate to open. If already opening, the trigger signal is ignored. If the gate is opened, but the beam is not broken, then the gate will immediately start closing when it reaches its programmed, fully open end point. It is thus a high security mode. With Condominium mode selected all trigger inputs will have the effect of opening a closed, or closing gate, but will be ignored if the gate which is already opening. This implies that it is not possible to give a trigger to close a gate which is open. The controller automatically installs “auto close” and it is the auto close timer which causes the gate to close. The auto close time can be adjusted from 1 to 255 seconds. (In this mode it is not possible to make use of the auto close override feature of the Centurion controllers).

Unfortunately the nut is fine.It has been a couple of years since I did my own installation on a D5 so this might have changed. They are excellent at repairing their motors.I bought and fitted a new battery and the motor spins if I hit the run button on the board (i dont have remotes for it), but when i loosen that nut to lock the gearbox to take it off manual mode, it makes no difference. Does this mean the gearbox is shot. The D3 is a very old motor. Get it sorted properly and you won't have to worry about it for a few years. Rip it out and take it to Centurion. Spend the extra couple of ZAR and you won't be sorry. PS, get yourself Sherlotronic remotes and receiver. Good price, very good product and long range.I did mail them for a quote on a new motor as well as a gearbox for this one. Awaiting a response.Maybe this might work, if you have not tried it yet.Maybe this might work, if you have not tried it yet. I managed to get a brand new D5 for R3999. This high starting torque is ideal to overcome the initial friction of getting the gate moving and accelerating the gate up to speed. Typical applications are farming communities, or high security sites located on mountainous areas, etc. Because of the internal limit switch mechanism (DOSS) it is vital to maintain the mesh between the rack and the pinion. Is the rack mounted UNDERNEATH the pinion. If so, DOSS direction is reversed, as well as motor wires. The first action after setting the limits is to close. If the gate opens, the motor wires must be reversed. Is the rack mounted UNDERNEATH the pinion. If so, DOSS direction and motor wires are reversed. Sometimes it stops during opening and sometimes during closing. It is very easy to see if this is the problem because the STATUS LED flashes 5 times as the motor stops, and all the monitoring LED’s (STATUS, L1 AND L2) will be switched off. This sometimes happens 3 times in a row.

Domestic kits come with either the 220 V mains supply installed directly to the gate to power the charger unit and pillar lights (like ours) or a DIY-oriented split charger unit requiring only a low voltage installation to the gate. There was nothing for it but to call in a repairman. When the gate is triggered, does the red TRG led light. Are any of the red diagnostic LEDs permanently on?”) I drew a blank. It was time to do a more detailed examination of the drive unit itself. Earlier, unclipping the motor cover had set off a scurry of ants. And there was worse.Oh yes, remember a few weeks back when the gate refused to open. On that occasion, a helpful, technically minded visitor opened up the motor to see if there was something he could do. Until it was pointed out to him that there was a general blackout at the time and no amount of tinkering would restore the power. And it would work off the battery for a while, anyway. Now, the relay could be heard energising with a click. Plastered over a couple of square centimetres of PC board track were the remains of what might once have been a slug. Or a gecko. Whatever, it was almost certainly bridging contacts and creating a short circuit.Tempting as it may have been, I decided against telling him everything was in order. Despite the gate’s return to good health, it seemed like a good idea to have him inspect the motor anyway. For good measure, he proposed relocating the motor to a higher position. With the motor being down on the ground you’re always going to have creatures crawling in there.” (How did I know he was going to say that?). The board, and what he called its DOS (this is a computer?) could do with upgrades to the latest spec, he said. This means more careful cleaning and maintenance, but at least it did help provide a way out of our dilemma. Competent handymen should be able to make a clone.

Ordinarily this would be bolted to the top of the rack; in the new arrangement it is welded to a mild steel strap on the gate’s main horizontal crosspiece. A noticeable difference is that, because this new mounting flexes ever so slightly, it makes a loud clonk as it passes the motor’s sensor unit. The keys to the original had been lost, so we’d had to prise the hatch open to reach the knurled wheel that disengages the motor pinion to allow manual gate operation. Even ones equipped with keys. Any trigger signals given during the period when the gate is in fully open position have the effect of restarting the auto close countdown. For high volume applications it may be necessary to change the battery charger to ensure that the total energy into the battery exceeds the total energy drawn out of the battery over a long period of time. If so, find and remove the short circuit. If not, find out why. If not, determine why. When the gate is triggered, does the red TRG led light. If not, determine why. Are any of the red diagnostic LED’s permanently on. If so, determine why. Attached PDF Manual is the complete installation and user manual for the D3 and D5 slider motor. Muck can be seen coating the receiver PCB. They exist so that you can open your front gate from the comfort and security of your car, simply by pressing a remote control button. Possibly, even, a replacement. To allow for just such a situation, the drive pinion can be disengaged. After just a few seconds’ twirling it’s possible to slide the gate open and shut manually. The motor whirred into life. So, with fingers crossed, I re-engaged the drive gear. We were back in business. Clearly it was that most irritating and puzzling of the species: the intermittent fault. Such as, the gate motor worked fine during the day, but at a certain time of night it simply went dead. It’s a 12 V DC motor energised by a maintenance-free sealed leadacid battery.Other plus points are high startup torque, precise motor control, and cool running.
