    centurion generator service manual

Exercise all appropriate cautions when handling fuel. After the service has been preformed, does anything need to be done to the hourmeter? This includes oil changes (at 100 hours) or air filter service (at 200 hours). As hours of operation continue to accumulate, the hourmeter will automatically reset itself until the next 100 or 200 hour service interval is reached. See the Hourmeter section of your owner's manual for additional information. The hourmeter on some generator models have a reset button that allows the operator to move between maintenance intervals and reset intervals by holding the reset button for nine seconds. NOTE: Not all generator models have a reset button. Instructions are covered in the Valve Clearance Adjustment section of your owner's manual. However, if you are uncomfortable preforming this service procedure, have your dealer maintain the generator's valve clearance at the intervals specified. However, portable generators are intended to be used during extreme weather and for the sensitive electronics on them, it is best if some sort of open covering can be used to protect it from direct rain or snow. Great options would be a car port or boat canopy with four open sides or a tarp hung from a tree. It is very important to provide adequate ventilation for the generator, so any sort of protection should be at least five feet from any side (including the top of the unit) while in use. Additionally, a portable generator should always be stored inside when not in use to prevent unnecessary wear and tear. BE ADVISED, the generator should NEVER be used in any enclosed space including, without limitation, a shed, home, garage, trailer, or vehicle, even if the doors are left open, as this can be a serious fire hazard and carbon monoxide risk. The highest priority is to maintain a proper oil level. Each time you add fuel, check the oil level as well. Add oil, if necessary, to keep the level at the upper mark on the dipstick.

Always consult your user manual for exact operating and maintenance solutions. Following the fuel stabilizer manufacturer's recommendations, treat the quantity of the fuel remaining in the fuel tank. Open the fuel valve, start and operate the engine for 30 minutes. Close the fuel valve and operate until the engine stops. This circulates treated fuel through lines and carburetor. The fuel can be drained or left in the tank. Aftermarket conversion kits are available on the internet. However, if a customer decides to convert the fuel using an aftermarket kit, the warranty is void. Never use an E85 fuel or a mixture of oil and gasoline designated for two cycle engines. Utilizing a higher grade premium fuel will not yield any increase in power output or improved performance. Air space is required to allow for expansion of the gasoline during warmer temperatures. So the actual amount of gasoline that will fit in the tank is typically less than the stated fuel tank capacity. The treated fuel can then be left in the tank. Fuel can be removed through the fill opening using an automotive style siphon.

Utility power delivers extremely high and dangerous voltages as does the generator when it is in operation. Avoid contact with bare wires, terminals, connections, etc., while the unit is running. Caution must be taken when connecting the battery.Compare the generator to Figures 4 through 6 to become familiarized with the locations of various controls and adjustments. Save this manual for future reference. Use each socket to power 120 Volt AC, single phase, 60 Hz electrical loads requiring up to a combined 2400 watts (2.4 kW) or 20 Amps of current. Proper grounding also helps dissipate static electricity, which often builds up in ungrounded devices. 2.3.2 CONNECTING ELECTRICAL LOADS DO NOT connect 240 Volt loads to 120 Volt receptacles. When this switch is turned “On,” the engine will only run at its normal fast governed engine speed when electrical load is connected. When the load is removed, the engine will run at a reduced speed of 2100 RPM.

See the Checking Oil Level and Adding Fuel sections of your owner's manual for complete instructions on adding fuel and oil. Should I unplug my electrical devices? First, turn off all appliances, lights and items being powered by the generator. Then, unplug the items from the generator's receptacles and allow the generator to cool. Once you've done this, it is safe to turn the generator off. NEVER turn the generator off while loads are applied. Refer to the Generator Loads section of your owner's manual for complete instruction on adding and removing electrical devices. When the generator is turned off, you can only connect electrical devices that are turned off. When the generator is turned on, you may connect electrical devices that are turned on or off. Proper grounding also helps dissipate static electricity which often builds up in ungrounded devices. The National Electric Code requires that the frame and externally conductive parts of this generator be properly connected to an approved earth ground. Local electrical codes may also require proper groundingof the unit. However, local codes may vary widely. Consult with a local electrician for grounding requirements in the area. Starting the unit monthly will help make sure that the generator is ready to turn on in the event of an outage. We do not offer a kit or recommend making any changes to the generator or exhaust system, as that can void the warranty and UL listing. Making any changes can void the generator warranty. Andrew 5.0 out of 5 stars Open your generator, drain the old oil into a pan from the drain hose, remove and install new filter and then pour the correct amount of new oil in. Changing the air filter is exactly like a car.Over the years, the 16kW generator has used a 992cc engine, a 999cc engine (my 2018 70361), and in 2019 they switched to an 816cc engine. Your Generator owner manual has a specification page and a replacement parts page that specifies what parts you need - it's better to go by those part numbers than the 'kit' numbers. Even though this kit says it is for a 20kW Generator, this is the correct kit for my 16kW unit. Realize this is the kit for the 400 hour service (good to have on hand). Also at 400 hours (and after the first 25 hours) the maintenance schedule recommends adjusting the valve clearance. I find working with Generac very annoying. Even though I provided my model and serial number, Generac still gave me the wrong kit number for a 992cc engine. Ziller Electric provides a cross-reference to the Generac part numbers and was helpful in clarifying what parts were in each kit. After the first 12 months, I noticed my oil is a bit milky (light brown), which means there is moisture in the oil. In a liquid-cooled engine this might mean coolant is leaking into oil, but this is an air-cooled engine, so that can't happen. I've read online that milky oil is common with these generators and that running at low speed may not get the engine warm enough to 'burn' off the moisture so it accumulates in the oil.

More frequent service is required when operating in adverse conditions noted below.Water can enter the engine fuel system and cause problems. In addition, if water enters the generator through cooling air slots, some water will be retained in voids and crevices of the rotor and stator winding insulation. In California, new off-road Large Spark-Ignition (LSI) engines must be designed, built and equipped to meet the state's stringent anti-smog standards. READ THIS MANUAL THOROUGHLY We also strongly recommend instructing other users to properly start and operate the unit. This prepares them if they need to operate the equipment in an emergency. SAVE installation site. Start the engine and let it stabilize before connecting electrical loads. Page 5 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS. Utility power delivers extremely high and dangerous voltages as does the generator when it is in operation. Avoid contact with bare wires, terminals, connections, etc., while the unit is running. Ensure all appropriate covers, guards and barriers are in place before operating the generator. The generator requires some assembly prior to using it. Caution must be taken when connecting the battery. Compare the generator to Figures 4 through 6 to become familiarized with the locations of various controls and adjustments. Use each socket to power 120 Volt AC, single phase, 60 Hz electrical loads requiring up to a combined 2400 watts (2.4 kW) or 20 Amps of current. Use only high quality, well-insulated, 3-wire grounded cord sets rated for 125 Volts at 20 Amps (or greater). The outlet is protected by a 30 Amp push-to-reset circuit breaker. Connect a suitable 4wire grounded cord set to the plug and to the desired load. The cord set should be rated for 250 Volts AC at 30 Amps (or greater) (Figure 10). Proper grounding also helps dissipate static electricity, which often builds up in ungrounded devices. 2.3.2 CONNECTING ELECTRICAL LOADS DO NOT connect 240 Volt loads to 120 Volt receptacles. DO NOT connect 3-phase loads to the generator. DO NOT connect 50 Hz loads to the generator. Never fill fuel tank.

Never when engine is running or hot. DO NOT light a 2.6.1 ADDING ENGINE OIL cigarette or smoke when filling the fuel tank. NOTE: When adding oil to the engine crankcase in the future, use only high quality detergent oil rated with API service classification SG, SH or SL. Figure 17 - Full Choke Position. When this switch is turned “On,” the engine will only run at its normal fast governed engine speed when electrical load is connected. When the load is removed, the engine will run at a reduced speed of 2100 RPM. With the switch “Off,” the engine runs at the normal fast engine speed all the time. Always have the switch OFF when starting and stopping the engine. 2. Page 15 Section 3 — Maintenance 3.2.2 ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS 3.1 MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE Follow the calendar intervals. More frequent service is required when operating in adverse conditions noted below. Water can enter the engine fuel system and cause problems. In addition, if water enters the generator through cooling air slots, some water will be retained in voids and crevices of the rotor and stator winding insulation. To clean or replace paper air filter: After the first 50 hours of operation, check the valve clearance in the engine and adjust if necessary. Page 18 Section 3 — Maintenance When valve clearance is correct, hold the pivot ball stud in place with the allen wrench and tighten the rocker arm jam nut. NOTE: Start all four screws before tightening or it will not be possible to get all the screws in place. Make sure the valve cover gasket is in place. I may switch to a full-speed test for the next 12-months and see if that makes a difference - either way, it probably makes sense to check the oil monthly to see how long after an oil change the moisture accumulates.Somehow these survived shipping. The air filter was not protected at all (it should be within a plastic bag at the minimum) and the oil filter rubbed on it and caused wear damage to the “clean” side of the paper element. The oil filter was just placed in the box with a plastic snap-on cover that came off (I can’t imagine how it would ever stay on) due to it bouncing around inside the box.Commonly available end style oil filter wrenches won't fit this small filter. After much searching, I found the CTA Tools 2460 64mm X 14 will fit. I also got this from Amazon. The process required an extra heavy duty filter wrench and almost resulted in my failure to remove the filter. The plugs were only 3 years old on my LP gas 22kw generator the manual calls for replacement at 4 years they need to be changed. The spark plug in the back of machine is difficult to reach I have a flex socket wrench which helped a lot. I used a high quality Amsoil oil made for Briggs and Stratton engines. This is the 3rd oil change on the generator and the oil comes out a little milk color like it has been mixed with water. The generator is on a concrete pad and there is gutters over it so it does not get anything other than rain on it.So change your oil every couple a months to get the water out THEN you can consider following the once a year oil change. We do this ever year regardless of hours used. Keep the previous years air filter and plugs till time for the next service. Better to have known good spare if there is an issue and the power is out and the roads are blocked. It comes packaged in a box but all the pieces come loose and we’re scattered everywhere. The two spark plugs were not gapped properly and the protective cover on the oil filter must have fell off in the shipping.
