You would think it is running normal, till you try and make an arc and there is no spark. I tried fiddling with the dials. I tried both the low amp and high amp setting of the switch. No go. I used my multitester and both leads have continuity to the tip of the nozzle and through the wire. I pulled the fuse and checked that for continuity and that tested good too. Your diode test function should tell you who's the offending culprit. You know to remove the grounded end to keep it from blowing and testing it under live load. I wasn't sure to recommend that to someone not electrically inclined. REAL easy to get hurt or do a lot of damage if not. I've come across one of these diodes that tested good on the meter, but failed under load. I'd replace all the diodes that test bad (obviously), but if there are only a few left unchanged, how much more is it really to change the rest and be sure ALL are good?Another reason it would be best to just replace them all. Also one reason I was not sure about my findings is I have heard some small multimeters are not powerful enough to get a reading on higher powered parts like this. I did some more digging and found that Littelfuse must have bought Teccor, since they have the same part numbers and data sheets. The S2055M is closer to the original than the NTE part, only difference it is good for 200V instead of 100V, the NTE part is good for 400V plus the rest of the specs are slightly different. The S2055M also crosses to the same NTE part so I know I am good. Lots of people online say that NTE makes parts that will replace a blanket of other parts, and the prices are a lot higher. I have soldered boards with much smaller connections than this, so it is not a problem. I would rather put in some time and learn something and save some money. I took the board out again and sure enough, part of the board blew out again. It was the part where one of the white wires connects to the board. I soldered it, then hooked it back up again except I left the thermal breaker disconnected. And sure enough, soon as I turned the welder on it did it again. A board is extremely expensive, especially since I still don't know if it is the board or not. I wonder if something else could be making the board blow out. If anything else is shorting out, it seems it would blow out at the weakest point which would be the board. But does it sound like it may be one of the diodes on the board. If so, I can go through the work of drilling the rivets off, desoldering each one and checking it, then bolting them back to heat sink. I can solder small things, that is not a huge deal.I drilled out the rivets in the diodes to remove the heat sink. First I disconnected one end of all the small diodes and checked them since they were easier, and they appear fine. The resistors seem fine, they all match their striped values even though I didn't disconnect each one. There were a few other parts on the board that I was not sure about, 2 transistors, a small capacitor, a larger diode (couldn't remove it very easily), a variable resistor, and a small 6 pin microchip. But they appear fine. Then I disconnected one end of the bigger diodes that attach to the heat sink. The results were all over the map.
